To get more storage space and fit new appliances, sometimes all it takes is replacing your current cabinets!
Planning Your New Kitchen Layout
Planning your kitchen can be complicated for so many reasons. It’s quite important to look at not just your cabinets, but the kitchen space as a whole. Imagine how much larger the room would feel with no cabinets or appliances in it at all!
Your kitchen remodel is an area of strict budgetary concern as well – no one wants to spend more than they have to, but at the same time, you want to make your kitchen a room you will enjoy for years to come!
Start with the Appliances
If you’re going to do a full kitchen remodel, start with a blank sheet of paper. Sketch where you would like the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, sink, microwave, coffee pot, etc. to be. Lay these out in a way that makes sense to you. You don’t want to be washing vegetables and then have to walk across the entire room just to drop them in boiling water! You also don’t want to be bumping into your loved ones every time you want to load the dishwasher or pour a cup of coffee.
Then Plan Your Countertops
Countertops are what support your ability to use your appliances. Where do you lay groceries when you first bring them in? What’s the best place for your steamer, crock pot, or other appliances which only come out for use and are put away later? Which side of the sink should your dish rack go on? These are all important kitchen layout questions, and the location of your countertops is key to making your kitchen a happy place to be.
Next Plan Your Storage
How much storage do you need? For starters, count how many cabinets you have. Maybe group them into large, medium, and small. How many of each? Can you fit this many into your new kitchen layout? Maybe you can fit a few more new cabinets into your kitchen layout, or perhaps you will be able to replace several small cabinets with a few larger ones.
