What’s the best choice for you? What’s the worst you could possibly do? Is it hardwood or carpet? Linoleum or tile? Read on to learn more about our recommendations for bathroom flooring in your Fayette County, PA home!
Let’s start with the worst bathroom flooring choices and work our way toward the best:
- Carpet – This is by far the worst choice! Just imagine water, soap suds, hair clippings, toenails, and so much more end up in bathroom carpet. It’s impossible to keep it clean and dry.
- Wood – whether it’s solid wood, laminate, or engineered wood, all can absorb moisture. Engineered wood is better than the other two because its base is sturdier plywood, but you’d do best to keep this out of a high traffic bathroom. If anything, put it in a half bath.
- Linoleum/Vinyl – The worst of these is linoleum tile, because moisture can go through all of the cracks, and this can cause warping and separation of your tile. Sheet linoleum is better because it doesn’t have seams, so it can better repel moisture. Even better is vinyl tile, which is made from waterproof plastic, but where there are seams you run into the same moisture trapping problem. Sheet vinyl is the best, because there are no seams and you gain the waterproofing capabilities.
- Ceramic or Stone Tile – These are by far the best for the bathroom, and add a very decorative appeal. Ceramic and stone tile are excellent choices for showers, pools, bathtubs, and flooring. Grout seals the seams from moisture and tile is inherently waterproof, so you end up with a beautiful bathroom that can repel moisture in all it’s forms.
